Objective

After doing this experiment, you should

1. gain a familiarity of the concept of isoenzyme.

2. have a mastery of the principle and procedure of testing LDH isoenzyme activity.

Principle

Isoenzyme may be defined as the multiple forms of a given enzyme present in different tissues, different cell types or subcellular compartments of the same organism, which catalyze the same reaction but their structural, physical, chemical and immunological properties exhibit many significant differences.

Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) isoenzyme includes the enzymes of the same species which catalyze the oxidation-reduction reaction between lactate and pyruvate. There are five tetrameric forms of LDH isoen
