2268IEEETRANSACTIONSONPOWERELECTRONICS,VOL.23,NO.5,SEPTEMBER2008TopologicalandModulationDesignofThree-LevelZ-SourceInvertersPohChiangLoh,Member,IEEE,FengGao,StudentMember,IEEE,andFredeBlaabjerg,Fellow,IEEEAbstract—Thispaperpresentsthedevelopmentoftwothree-levelcascadedZ-sourceinverters,whoseoutputvoltagecanbesteppeddownorupunlikeatraditionalbuckthree-levelin-verter.Theproposedinvertersaredesignedusingtwothree-phasevoltage-sourceinverterbridges,suppliedbytwouniquelyde-signedZ-sourceimpedancenetworks.Thesethree-phasebridgescaneitherbecascadedattheirdcsidestoformadc-link-cascadedZ-sourceinverterorattheiracoutputsusingsingle-phasetrans-formerstoformadualZ-sourceinverter.Thedc-link-cascadedinverterhastheadvantagesofnotusinganyclampingdiodesandtransformers,butdoesnothaveredundantswitchingstatesw
