Of all the famous English writers , the best known is William Shakespeare.

He was born in 1564. His father was an important man in his town, so Shakespeare

had a good upbringing ( 教养 ). Shakespeare went to school but not university. He got married to Anne Hathaway when he was 18 and the couple had 3 children.

Shakespeare wrote 38 plays . He began working in his hometown of Stratford but in 1592 he was writing in London. He became rich enough to buy a house in

the capital and in his hometown.
